Co-occurring Disorders

Co-occurring disorders are other mental health disorders that commonly occur along with serious mental illness.

Anxiety

Everyone experiences stress and occasional worried thoughts. But with anxiety disorders, the worried thoughts are extreme, long-lasting, and interfere with daily function.

Anxiety disorders are treated with medications, therapy, or a combination of both.

Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are sudden feelings of intense fear that happen when there is no real danger or threat. The episodes cause physical symptoms that can be frightening and uncomfortable. Panic attacks are treated with medications, therapy, or a combination of both.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD is a disorder that affects a person’s concentration and energy levels. There are 3 types of ADHD- Inattentive, Hyperactive/Impulsive, and Combined, which has symptoms of both the Inattentive and Hyperactive type.

Substance Use and Mental Illness

Almost 1 in every 4 people with mental illness also have a substance use disorder. But frequent and/or excessive use of alcohol, marijuana, stimulants, opioids and hallucinogens can actually make symptoms much worse and increases the risk of suicide.
