Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder is a mood disorder that affects a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They feel sad or depressed most of the day, nearly every day for two weeks or longer.

Depression

Everyone has bad days, but with Major Depressive Disorder, feelings of sadness and often hopelessness last for weeks or longer. Symptoms start to interfere with school, work and relationships.

The disorder is diagnosed when someone experiences at least five symptoms for at least two weeks.

Depressive episodes may require hospitalization if suicidal thoughts are present.

Major Depressive Disorder With Psychotic Features

Depressive episodes may cause symptoms of psychosis.
